About

The tensions between culture and tradition, between Asia and Europe shape the artist existence of Qi Yang. He develops his visual and formal language from his experience with Chinese philosophy, traditional Chinese art and meditation - as well as his knowledge of Western art. The art of Qi Yang derives its dynamics from this conflict. Inspired by the school of Informel, he prefers large-format panels on which he creates rhythms of colour and form.

Professor Qi Yang, a German painter and multimedia artist from China, came to Germany in 1987 at the invitation of the HDK Berlin. In 1990-93 he received a scholarship from the Heinrich Böll Foundation in Cologne. In 1990-1996 he received his doctorate from the University of Heidelberg with the degree of Doctor phil. Since 1995 he has been awarded several grants for solo exhibitions.
